We ate our first Beyond Burgers this month. Here’s our review: When you live near an all-American town like Sag Harbor, New York, you know you’re going to find a great burger. I love the burgers at Dockside, a local institution that’s an improbable tenant…
The way it works in our house is that I leave the recipe for whatever I am making for dinner sitting conspicuously on the kitchen counter. It’s the first thing Andrew sees when he gets home and walks into the kitchen. The only advance warning…
Victor and Marcella Hazan There is a sad anniversary this week. It’s been a year since the world lost Marcella Hazan, that wonderfully giving Italian food prophet with whom I struck up a friendship over the internet. Fortunately, when you are as good as Marcella,…
Metro Marché, 30 West 57th Street Between 5th and 6th Ave. New York City
If Holly Golightly wanted a better Breakfast At Tiffany’s, she could have just headed a half block west where, at Metro Marché, a 2-Egg Bacon Cheese Sandwich and a cup of coffee would have set her back just $6.95. And instead of braving the elements she would have found herself in this wonderfully open space with plenty of places to sit and lots of fantastic things to eat. Who knows, Holly might have just brought her laptop and set up shop waiting until lunchtime.
Like this writer, she would have been bowled over by what’s on offer in bowls of her own creation. I’d call it a Super Salad Bar. On top of a menu of no fewer than 8 Chef Designed Salads, I chose to make my own creation from Metro Marché’s Market Table. I selected a base, added two sides, topped them with a choice of protein –shrimp, salmon, chicken or tofu—and finished it off with one of 5 “sauces”, otherwise known as salad dressing
Sandwich Lovers will have to come back 15 times to sample all that’s on offer on Metro Marché’s Chef Designed Sandwich menu. From Melts to “Cold” Sandwiches and New York Deli Classics, they’re pertect to pair with a cup or bowl of soup. Not to be forgotten is an enormous array of all kinds of fresh juices, ‘house made’ lemonades and refreshers. Even sweet tooths can find satisfaction here ranging from Greek Yogurt Parfaits to Brownie bites and macaroons.
